Kettle
by Susan Kelly-DeWitt
March 2013
It sits perfectly
still—hoping to be
lifted, still
waiting to be
raised up—plucked
like an iron flower
out of this buddha-
shape, this burning
skin.
Whenever a cold hand
clasps the heat-
crazed body,
it wonders:
Is this the hand of God?
