Eat These Words
Where we can all:
Eat These Words!
TOGETHER
(First of its kind!)
We want to take you out to eat! To discover local, obscure gems of the New York City culinary world in neighborhoods you may not have tried yet. We'll sample and dine, talk with cooks and purveyors, tour the markets and food malls, and take breaks to write about what we're experiencing and what inspires us most. You'll get to hang with Alimentum editors Paulette Licitra and Menupoemer Esther Cohen and pick our brains. We'd love to share with you what makes it into Alimentum pages and why. We want to hear your thoughts, read your writing, and have a blast diving into the tastiest foods of New York together.

Friday October 29, 4:30pm-10pm Saturday October 30, 10am-9pm For lunch: an Asian buffet. We've uncovered the tastiest place in Flushing all picked out for you! Followed by writing at a Tea Parlor. What did we just eat and experience? Let's put on paper what our bellies, brains, and imaginations are churning. You'll have a couple of hours free to shop, get a fabulous foot rub (we'll show you where, cheap and great!), or write some more on your own. Then dinner at a little known Chinese restaurant. The only place in the country with food from this obscure part of China. A major surprise and treat. After dinner, we'll write our good nights then take the train back to Manhattan. Sunday October 31, 10am-2pm To hold your spot in our Eat These Words walking tour/writing workshop, please write Cost: $750 per person First come, first reserved.
Meet at Grand Central for a get-to-know-you drink. Then we'll hop a train to Jackson Heights, Queens, home to a wealth of ethnic treats with an emphasis on Indian and Pakistani. We'll visit the food markets, have a dosa dinner, and write (scribble-nibble together).
Meet at Grand Central for a wake-up coffee/cappuccino and some wake-up writing. Then we're off to Flushing, Queens, a neighborhood of 65 Asian communities. We'll tour the food malls and food supermarkets, meeting with merchants and cooks, sampling, and discovering one of the country's most dynamic immigrant communities.
Today we're in Manhattan, and we'll meet downtown at a small museum devoted to Chinese culture in the United States. More time for writing. Then a Dim Sum lunch at a little-known restaurant run by Peruvian Chinese. After lunch, we'll have a reading, sharing the weekend in words. Then we'll bid farewell with heads, hearts, and appetites full.
